shelter belt trees

I'm having a helluva time with weeds in my shelterbelt made up of 5
row of tree's. what if any kind of herbicide can I spray on them
without harming the tree's.
The tree's are: Green Ash
Colorado blue spruce
Poplar
lilac bushes
Caragana bushes
Currently I'm trying granular herbicide and it's affectiveness is very
spotty.
